Who Let The Dogs Out?
Police Dogs Paw Prints zoo Ceramics Commission
5 June 2014     Well PC Andy Durham from the Lincolnshire Police Dog Section let lots of dogs out around our pottery workshop, to have their paws printed in to presentation plaques. A few years ago Andy brought us some huge German Shepherds http://www.zooceramics.co.uk/news09nov.htm, but this year was so much easier with smaller Spaniels and Labradors.

How many police dog handlers does it take to print a dog paw? Quite a lot!

Rolling Pin At The Ready
Maggie Betley Zoo Ceramics Tile Workshop
30 May 2014     Maggie’s busy rolling lots of tiles in preparation for this weekend’s workshop at the Lincoln Castle for the 1000 Years of Traditional Crafts show. It looks like the sun is going to shine on us at last, so it promises to be a great day out with lots of free activities and stone carvers, glass artists, pottery, weavers and tours around the castle.

Wondering Which Bird
Tracy Wright Zoo Ceramics Barn Owl Demo
28 May 2014     Tracy is wondering which birds to make at this weekend’s 1000 Years of Traditional Crafts at the Lincoln Castle. At the last show she managed to make a pair of Barn Owls; so maybe some little Puffins and Penguins, the odd Kiwi and probably a couple of Dodos.

Anything to distract her from the homemade fudge stalls!

Forget Sponge Bob This Is Sponge Buffalo
Maggie Betley Buffalo Head Pot Demo
20 May 2014     Buffalo Head Pots are tricky things to make, as Maggie has to pack the underneath of the horns with lots of sponge, which helps the design to dry out slowly and keep well balanced.
A selection of these large head pot sculptures is featured in the African Week exhibition at the Joe Cornish Gallery in Northallerton.

Maggie’s Seeing Stripes

Zebras Demo by Maggie Betley Zoo Ceramics

25 April 2014     Maggie has been busy carving some large Zebra Head Pots. It is quite a tricky process getting the lines just right. Sometimes a manic “AAARRRGGHHH!” can be heard when the lines go wrong; that means it is time to put the kettle on.
