DESCRIPTION Cute dolphin light pull for ceiling light, fan or cord pull fob for domestic lighting, showers, blinds and curtains. Remove old pull and replace with new one by threading cord or chain through hole on the top. Tie a secure knot on the end and then drop pull down to hide the knot inside the design. Pull is frost and waterproof and can also be used as a garden cane topper or decoration for use indoors and out.
SIZE 4 cm high x 10.5 cm long by 3.5 cm deep. Cord hole 4 - 5 mm.
COLOUR White and blue stoneware glaze with black oxide details.
MATERIALS Stoneware fired ceramic to 1260 degrees.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT I love Japanese Netsuke, which are small carved figures, originally used in the 17th-century as a button type toggle to adorn a man’s garment. The pieces often incorporate aspects of life and folklore in their design and over time have become admired and collected for their beautiful artistic qualities. The two characters of the word “ne” and “tsuke” mean “root” and “attach” and the little creatures depicted in this art form were carved in ivory, wood, metal and ceramic. Each of our little light pulls are carved in clay and I like to think that they will begin to tell their own stories.
PLEASE NOTE The listing is for one animal light pull. We make lots of these little animal designs, so the item you receive will be very similar, but not necessarily the one shown. Due to the hand-made nature of the pieces there may be slight variations in size, pattern and colour, but be reassured that we only send out the finest examples. Please note we do not supply the cord or the chain.
METHOD OF CONSTRUCTION We hand carve the original and then cast it in plaster. We make our own liquid clay slip that is poured in to the moulds for a few hours, then drained and allowed to set over night. The cast is then removed from the mould, then trimmed and finished and left to dry before being bisque fired in an electric kiln to 1000°C. The kiln takes 24 hours to cool before being emptied out and the pieces glazed. Our own stoneware glazes are dipped, poured, painted and sprayed on to our designs. The glazed work goes back into the kiln for a second firing up to 1260°C, which fixes the glaze permanently and make the piece frost proof and water resistant. Each piece can take about 2 weeks to create; whilst larger pieces can take over a month to complete.
